How long does shredded coconut last?
Frozen: Shredded coconut can last for up to a year when stored in the freezer.
Dehydrated: If you prefer your shredded coconut crispy, dehydrating it will help maintain its crunchy texture and flavor. Dehydrated coconut will last for up to two years.
Fresh: As the most perishable of the three options, fresh coconut will only last for up to six months in your fridge, assuming It is stored in an airtight container or ziplock bag with the air sucked out as much as possible.
What’s the best way to tore shredded coconut?
The recommended way of storing shredded coconut is to freeze it. Simply place it in a bag and freeze it.
To thaw frozen coconut, gently and slowly separate the pieces from each other with your fingers before using them in a recipe. Or just let it thaw at room temp for 20 minutes on top of a paper towel.
Dehydration is the second best:
Dehydrated: Place dehydrated shredded coconut on top of an oven rack while preheating for about two minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit until crispy again. You can also put them into a 300-degree F oven then turn off the heat and let sit overnight or for up to 12 hours if you want to make sure they’re fully dried out without overcooking them.
Fresh: Shredded fresh coconuts should be used as soon as possible since it has such a short shelf life! If not consumed within six months after purchase, discard any unused portions of the coconut.
How long will shredded coconut last in the cabinet?
About the same as it would in the fridge, 4-6 months at most.
